There are four main soft trails that are used for hiking, running, horseback riding, and biking through the Hickory Hills Park and Casey's Paha State Preserve. These main soft trails are wider track trails with offshoots and unmarked single track trails. There is no hunting in Hickory Hills Park but the Casey's Paha State Preserve section of Hickory Hills Park allows hunting during the different hunting seasons. Although established in Tama County in 1969, Black Hawk County Conservation owns and manages the area.
The park offers many leisure and recreational opportunities including camping, fishing, hunting, picnicking, sand volleyball, disc golf, hiking, biking, fishing, cross-country skiing, sledding, and ice skating. Wildlife in the park consists of bison, elk, and a variety of fowl. Several miles of hiking trails offer park users a chance to witness nature’s endless variety.
