Cedar Prairie Trail

The Cedar Prairie Trail is an important component of the extensive the Cedar Valley Trail system. The paved pathway runs between the South Riverside Trail at Waterloo Road in Cedar Falls and the Sergeant Road Trail along Sergeant Road/US 63, just north of Shaulis Road in Waterloo. The trail travels over gently rolling hills, past a few suburban neighborhoods, shopping centers, light industrial areas, and the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex before entering the Katoski Greenbelt, a beautiful, tree-lined path through the Black Hawk Creek corridor.

This trail makes up part of the Cedar Prairie Loop which also utilizes the Greenhill Trail, Sergeant Road Trail, and South Riverside Trail to create a 19.3 mile loop through Cedar Falls and Waterloo.

Cedar Prairie Trail

The trail begins on Grand Blvd in Cedar Falls and ends at Sergeant Road/Hwy 63 in Waterloo.

You can access the Cedar Valley Trail from several locations, but parking is available here:

  • Ranchero Road (off Hwy 63) and Black Hawk Creek
  • There is also a small parking area across from Paw Park on South Main Street in Cedar Falls.

The trail also goes through Robinson Bird Sanctuary.

The Leonard Katoski Greenbelt Park includes several miles of soft trails for biking, hiking, and cross country skiing.
