The University Avenue Trail is an important part of the Cedar Valley Trails System, connecting the western portion of Cedar Falls with Downtown Waterloo. The wide sidewalk/bike path runs along the entire length of the newly reconstructed University Avenue, from Sergeant Road in Waterloo to Main Street in Cedar Falls. There are lots of roundabouts to negotiate, and many stoplights along the way, but it provides a direct urban corridor between the two cities. The trail crosses the Cedar Prairie Trail, Greenhill Trail, and Sergeant Road Trail, so connecting to the rest of the Cedar Valley Trails System is easy.

University Avenue Trail

The trail runs along the side of University Avenue between Sergeant Road in Waterloo and Main Street in Cedar Falls.

Couldn't ask for a better day for a ride. Around 200 people registered for the ride. Bob Dorr band put on a superb show and just an overall great event. Thanks to all volunteers that helped with the ride, businesses that donated, and riders that participated in the ride. Cedar Valley has some of the best people in the country!

Celebrate Trails Day was a colossal success in the Cedar Valley. Shoot out to Cedar Valley Cyclist, Waterloo Exchange Club, Tavis Hall and his supporters, Boy and Girl Scout troops, Cedar Valley Unitarian Universalists and all the volunteers who collected well over 200 bags of trash along or near our trail network. Huge thanks for not only making a positive impact on our trail system but improving the environment for future generations!

If it’s muddy enough that you leave a rut or footprint, please stay off the soft trails. These ruts and footprints will eventually dry like pavement and will directly impact the experience of other trail users. Just wanted to say thanks to Hartman Reserve Nature Center for holding the Frosty Bun snowshoe race and to Scott Gall for mapping out a exciting trail to run on. The Frosty Buns race is always a fun adventure with Iowa winters. Come do the Sticky Stride trail running event held on Sat. March 12th by Hartmann Reserve and take part in the Maple syrup event following the race. Who doesn't enjoy some fresh Cedar Valley maple syrup!
