Hudson Road Trail

The Hudson Road Trail is a multi-use side path that runs from University Avenue to 1st Street in Cedar Falls. The trail helps provide pedestrian and bicycle access to the campus of the University of Northern Iowa, and forms an important link in the Cedar Valley Trails system. Just to the south of the trail, the Greenhill Road Trail continues east and then north towards the Cedar River and Waterloo. On the northern end of the trail, the 1st Street Trail provides another side path where you can continue your journey west for another mile and a half, to Union Road Trail. Together, the Union Road and Hudson Road trails help to form a looping network of trails, crossing 12th and 27th Streets (which also offers paved shoulders) around the western edge of Cedar Falls.

When passing by the UNI Dome, the trail continues alongside Hudson Road and then up some steep stairs (perfect for runners looking for some exercise) before continuing south to University Avenue. Cyclists can either portage up the stairs or use the path to the west along the parking lot and then south on the back side of the Dome. This will connect to the paved shoulder along West 27th Street. Or you can continue along the trail south to University Avenue.

By far the most prominent destination along the trail is the University of Northern Iowa (the path detours from the roadside to run right up alongside the UNI Dome and the McLeod Center, the main athletic venues where the UNI Panthers play). The trail also runs through many quiet neighborhoods, and within short distances of local schools, helping pedestrians with a convenient path to and from school. Quiet neighborhood streets can take trail users from the north end of the trail east into Cedar Falls' historic downtown area, where even more trails await along the banks of the Cedar River. The College Hill area is also just minutes away.
