UNI Preserve Trail

Right in the heart of the campus of the University of Northern Iowa, the UNI Preserve Trail offers a scenic trek through prairie and woodland, giving trail users the opportunity to escape into nature right in their backyard, and providing a useful connection from the campus to the area trail network. Beginning right across from the Panther Plot, a student-run community garden created in 2013, the trail heads east along the side of a preserved prairie space that the university has maintained - the trail surface is a mixture of asphalt and recycled glass, a further showcase of their commitment to sustainability. A series of grass paths run throughout the prairie, allowing pedestrians to explore the space; additional preserves and trails are located a short distance south. The UNI Preserve Trail quickly enters a lovely, wooded corridor dotted with benches and sculptures as it approaches a local arts center, then becomes a sidepath along Seerley Blvd where the trail connects with the Cedar Prairie Trail, providing access to downtown Cedar Falls in the north and many more miles of area trails to the south. A beautiful little trail, the UNI Preserve Trail is an important piece in the campus' transportation network that helps link students and the larger community.

The university maintains several parking lots near the western end of the trail, allowing for easy access with the proper permits. Additional on-street parking may be available along 29th Street; be sure to follow any posted parking signs. The trail is located at the intersection of Jennings Drive and 29th Street, just a short distance south of University Avenue west from State Route 27/58.
